Monster: The Ed Gein Story (Streaming now)

Netflix has set October 3, 2025, as the premiere date for Monster: The Ed Gein Story, the latest installment in Ryan Murphy and Ian Brennan’s true crime anthology.

Charlie Hunnam takes on the chilling role of Ed Gein, the notorious Wisconsin murderer and grave robber whose crimes shaped some of the most enduring horror stories in American culture.

Hunnam, widely recognized for his role as Jax Teller in Sons of Anarchy, undergoes a dramatic transformation to portray Gein, often called the “Butcher of Plainfield.” Posters released by Netflix showcase his unsettling look for the series, which delves into Gein’s life as a seemingly quiet recluse hiding horrifying secrets on his rural farm.

The series highlights Gein’s disturbing legacy, which inspired iconic films including Psycho, The Texas Chain Saw Massacre, and The Silence of the Lambs. Known for his fixation on his mother and gruesome acts involving exhumed corpses, Gein confessed to two murders in the 1950s and became a symbol of America’s darkest fears.

The cast also features Laurie Metcalf as Gein’s mother, Augusta; Tom Hollander as Alfred Hitchcock; Olivia Williams as Alma Reville; Addison Rae as Evelyn Hartley; and Charlie Hall as Deputy Frank Worden. Additional cast members include Lesley Manville, Suzanna Son, and Robin Weigert.

Monster: The Ed Gein Story follows the anthology’s previous installments on Jeffrey Dahmer and the Menendez brothers. Season 4, currently in development, will focus on Lizzie Borden. Executive producers for the series include Murphy, Brennan, Max Winkler, Eric Kovtun, Carl Franklin, and Hunnam.

'Steve' Trailer: Cillian Murphy Portrays Reform School Teacher Grappling with His Mental Health

Fans of "Peaky Blinders," already delighted on October 2nd by the announcement of a spin-off of the series, are now rekindled with the film "Steve," which stars the star actor who played Tommy Shelby in the title role.

A moving drama
The plot takes viewers to the mists of England, to the Stanton Wood manor. It is in this century-old building that the action takes place in 1996. The establishment turns out to be a school for juvenile delinquents. The audience is immersed in 24 hours in the day of its director, Steve. His daily life is turned upside down by the announcement of the center's impending closure. The devoted teacher tries as best he can to keep his head above water, while a tragedy from his past consumes him.

Its original format and themes are reminiscent of the hit series "Adolescence," whose actor Owen Cooper recently received an award at the 77th Primetime Emmy Awards.

This film is an adaptation of Max Porter's 2023 bestseller "Shy." Instead of the story taking the student's point of view as in the book, the director focuses on that of the bereaved principal. Ready to get out the tissues?
